FORT LAUDERDALE – This June, the Broward Center turns up the heat just with a sensational lineup featuring performances by stars from NBC's hit TV show The Voice, popular Caribbean music, powerful modern dance, ballet productions and more.
Florida Classical Ballet presents its Classical and Romantic Galas on Friday, May 30 and Friday, June 6 at 8 p.m. in the Amaturo Theater. Both performances feature ballet programs with principal dancers from acclaimed American companies, who will exhibit their virtuosity and exceptional talent alongside the young dancers from Florida Classical Ballet. These exceptional productions include some of the most beautiful pieces of the classical and romantic repertoire, with selections from the beloved ballets Giselle, La Esmeralda and Paquita. The dancers and programs will vary for each performance. Tickets are $30 to $50.
Dance Dimensions presents its annual spring performance Puttin' on the Ritz on Saturday, May 31 at 12 and 5 p.m. and Sunday, June 1 at 5 p.m. in the Amaturo Theater. The end-of-year show features talented students of all ages sharing their love of dance with the community. Tickets are $20.
The South Florida Pride Wind Ensemble will present A Little Night Music on Saturday, June 7 at 7 p.m. in the Amaturo Theater. From movie soundtracks (Star Trek Into Darkness) to musicals (Phantom of the Opera) and jazz ("A Night in Tunisia"), this exciting concert will explore all types of popular "night time" music to entertain audiences all night long. Tickets are $25 and $10 for students with valid I.D.
The American Foundation for the University of West Indies presents Caribbean Jazz Matazz on Sunday, June 8 at 7 p.m. in the Amaturo Theater. This unforgettable evening of island sound delivers a mesmerizing fusion of jazz, reggae and calypso music with an impressive lineup of top-notch performers including Jamaica's top female jazz performer Myrna Hague with Richie Stephens, Eugene Grey, Trinidad's Charmaine Forde and George Tandy. Tickets are $40, with VIP tickets available for $60 which include premium seating and a pre-show cocktail reception at 6 p.m.
Expressions of Joy presents a ballet adaptation of C.S. Lewis' beloved children's series The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe on Saturday, June 14 at 7 p.m. in the Amaturo Theater. In this powerful story of courage, loyalty and selfless love, four siblings are evacuated to the English country during the London air raids of World War II and discover a wardrobe that transports them to the magical land of Narnia. This production combines elements of adventure and faith with the message of redemption, bringing the story, music and timeless beauty of classical ballet to life on stage. This performance is presented as part of the Broward Center's Arts Access Program, which assists community-based organizations in presenting arts and cultural performances at the Broward Center. Tickets are $25 and $35 with $40 for VIP tickets, which include a pre-show red carpet reception and photo opportunity with dancers beginning at 6:15 p.m. in the lower lobby. Free lap seat tickets are also available for children three years and younger.
Fans of the hit NBC show The Voice can see their favorite contestants perform live when this season's talented top finalists and favorite past stars take the stage as part of The Voice Tour on Thursday, June 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the Au-Rene Theater, presented by AEG Live and the Broward Center. Stars from the past six seasons, including this season's winner and runner up, season five champion Tessanne Chin and season one runner up Dia Frampton, will perform favorite moments from their seasons and showcase their spectacular talents. Tickets are $35 to $65.
The hottest sports fitness stars in the world will compete at the 15th Annual Fitness Universe Weekend on Friday, June 27 and Saturday, June 28 at 9 a.m. in the Amaturo Theater. This exciting, two-day event will feature fitness, sports modeling and natural bodybuilding competitions with more than 400 world-class athletes from throughout Florida, the United States and the world as part of the Fitness, Model and Musclemania World Tours that have been featured on ESPN International for 25 years. One day passes are $50 for general admission and $75 for VIP, and two day passes are $100 for general admission and $150 for VIP.
The Broward Center offers theater-goers the opportunity to enhance their experience for performances in the Au-Rene Theater with the Silver Airways Intermezzo Lounge. Open one hour before curtain and during intermission, guests receive complimentary Silver Airways' signature pink champagne, premium beer, wine, soda, coffee, tea (with mixed drinks offered at preferred pricing), appetizers and desserts for the admission price of $30 (sold separately from theater ticket).
