Brilliant Soloist And Guest Conductor Highlight Symphony Of The America’s Celebrate The Classics Concert

The Symphony of the Americas’  “Celebrate the Classics” program on Tuesday night at the Broward Center’s Amaturo Theater was replete with exciting music-making. Maestro James Brooks-Bruzzese celebrated this season as “The Year of the Maestro,”  opened the evening with a performance of Mozart’s Overture to The Abduction from the Seraglio marked by crisp articulation and strong detailing of the music’s Turkish influenced elements. The central, slower episode was given weight and grace, Marco Key-Navarrete’s oboe tones elegant in the important solo.

Rare Ginastera Concerto And First Contender In Music Director Search Enliven Symphony Of The Americas Season Opener

The Symphony of the Americas’ opening program of the season on Tuesday night at the Broward Center’s Amaturo Theater held some enticing surprises. A performance of a rarely heard work by Alberto Ginastera, the debut of a gifted locally based pianist and an impressive podium presentation by Venezuelan conductor Carlos Riazuelo contributed to an evening of strong music-making.

50 Years to the Day Hippefest Celebrates Anniversary of Woodstock with Ten Years After, Big Brother & The Holding Company and Vanilla Fudge

FORT LAUDERDALE – Exactly 50 years after Jimi Hendrix closed out the 1969 Woodstock Festival in the early hours of August 18, those that were there and some friends perform an evening of peace and music as Ten Years After, Big Brother & The Holding Company and Vanilla Fudge headline Hippiefest in the Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, August 18 at 6:30 p.m. Sha Na Na founding member Henry Gross, the youngest performer at Woodstock 69, hosts and performs.
