“Take 5 to Stay Alive” Student Winners Honored for Safety Message Work

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL -- Student winners of the first annual Take 5 to Stay Alive - Don't Text & Drive video PSA awards will be honored today at The School Board of Broward County, Florida meeting. High school students from across Broward County were asked to produce and submit their best interpretation of the message Take 5 to Stay Alive - Don't Text & Drive, in a 30-second public service announcement. In all, 15 videos were submitted by students and schools and judged by a panel of experts, in a variety of categories. Three winners were selected.

Tribute to Stan Getz Featuring Billy Ross Closes the Gold Coast Jazz Society’s Jazz Concert Series

It’s been over 50 years since Stan Getz and Charlie Parker helped launch the Bossa Nova and modern jazz craze in the United States. For tenor sax enthusiasts, Stan Getz is legendary.  On Wednesday, May 14, the Gold Coast Jazz Society pays tribute to this great jazz musician by presenting jazz saxophonist Billy Ross in “A Tribute to Stan Getz” at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

Lips to Present a "Never Say Farewell-Tribute to Cher” Benefitting Smart Ride on Thursday, May 15

OAKLAND PARK, FL  – Just two days before Cher’s sold-out “Dressed to Kill” concert at the BB&T Center, Lips--the ultimate in drag dining, will present an exclusive dinner show in her honor as a launch party to the 11th Annual SMART Ride (Southern Most AIDS/HIV Ride 2014). Lips’ “Never Say Farewell--Tribute to Cher” will take place Thursday, May 15 at 7 p.m. and benefit SMART Ride 2014, a two-day, 165 Mile bicycle ride from Miami to Key West planned for this November.
