FORT LAUDERDALE, Fl – The Junior League of Greater Fort Lauderdale will host its 16th Annual Riverwalk Run at Huizenga Plaza, located at Las Olas Boulevard and Andrews Avenue in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, February 20, 2016. The 5K Run/Walk and 5 Mile Run begin at 7 a.m. with the Kids’ Fun Run beginning at 8:15 a.m. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Junior League of Greater Fort Lauderdale and their community projects.
The 16th Annual Riverwalk Run will lead runners and walkers on a 5K and 5-mile course through the heart of Rio Vista. The route starts at Huizenga Plaza on Las Olas Boulevard, runs along the bank of the New River, wanders through the tree-lined neighborhood streets of Rio Vista, cuts through Smoker Park with views of the New River and the historic Stranahan House and finishes on the signature brick path of the Riverwalk. The event will also feature a 40 yard dash Kids’ Fun Run, lined with parents and volunteers to guide kids along the course. Post-race festivities include a hearty brunch and activities for the kids.
The cost of the event is $35 in advance for the 5K/5-mile and $45 on the day of the race. The Kids’ Fun Run is $10 in advance and $20 on race day. Runners can register at www.riverwalkrun.com.
This year's events will officially kick off at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 18, 2016, with the Pre-Race Party at Shooters Waterfront, Fort Lauderdale’s premier waterfront restaurant. Spend the night shopping one-of-a-kind silent auction items, enjoying passed hors d'oeuvres and sipping on specialty cocktails, all while dressed in your nautical attire and raising money for a great cause. Tickets for the Race Party are $45 in advance or can be purchased at the door that night for $55, if available. New this year, event attendees have the option to purchase a $60 VIP ticket, which includes an exclusive yacht experience and a VIP swag bag.
